In the Spotlight: Teacher Corner Videos

In January, Master Trainers Meg Feeney & Jenny Bertrand posted very helpful tutorial videos.

Meg posted a review of the Shoulder Blast Sequence from PCW1. She also guided us through Neutral C, Neutral Elongation, PNF and the Lever Stretch. Although primarily for Apprentice and Level 1 instructors, it’s great for all of us to review. Watch here.

Jenny provided great cues for Caribbean Spine & Windmills. She demonstrated the positional alignment for both exercises and suggested making both exercises easier to follow by slowing the movements down and making them smaller. Jenny also spoke about preparing for Level 3 & 4. Watch here.

Learning Tools We Love:

Level 3 Instructor Nancy Shimmy posted her favorite resources for studying Level 3 & 4:  The Essential Anatomy 3 App by 3D4Medical.com,LLC, The Anatomy Coloring Book by Wynn Kapit and Lawrence M. Elson, and the Trail Guide to the Body: Skeletal System, Joints and Ligaments, Movements of the Body/Edition 5 by Andrew Biel. These are great additions for any instructor who wants to learn more about the body and movement.

Tip of the Month:

Let the mirror be your best friend!

Whether you’re an apprentice instructor or a seasoned Level 4, it’s a great idea to check out your alignment and your movements using a full length mirror.  Watching yourself to see if you are staying in alignment as you move will show what you need to focus on when teaching. Both you and your students will benefit from this. Knowing what to look out for will help you better cue your students, your form will improve and so will theirs.

Question of the Month:

Can I use barre exercises from other PCWs as a substitute for the floor work in PCW 9?

Yes you can! Most of us have students that can’t do floor exercises or just won’t. You can modify PCW 9 by adding the big four stretches from the barre section of PCW 10 or  PCW 11. Isn’t that great news?

Just for Laughs:

Level 4 instructor Cassandra McCoy shared, “Well I have a couple who regularly come to my Essentrics class and today I received a message from the wife. She wrote me saying that she had walked into the room they were painting and her husband told her, ‘Look! I’m doing Essentrics on this wall!’ She even sent me a video and my instructor heart was proud, as his form was on point!”
